Sosefina is the Samoan way of saying, “Josephine.” This poor guy is just not sure if Sosefina is really his or not. Is her love real?

La’u filifiliga i le toe / mo le amataina
O le ta mafutaga ina ia maua se uiga
E le suamalie pe a faigofie
Pe a tutusa ta’ua i le loto malie

{ CHORUS }

Nai / Ni ou masalosaloga e moni ea o lou alofa
O le afai a’u ma ou fa’apaologa

Sosefina ua lelei
Avea ia oe (fai) ma o’u sei
Te ufi malu ia oe ne’i fa’aoa lou lalelei

(Extra verse in Tiama’a version)

Leitioa Solomona le faigata o le alofa
O sa’u inu toe toe ae le mafai talu le ‘oona
Ita pei a valea ia oe le manamea
Ta’ilo i lou mafaufau i te’i ita ua tafea

{ REPEAT CHORUS }

(E nai) Ou manaoga ta fia faatalofa
ia oe le uo Sosefina o le ma’a tasi o lou ola
Pe a na iai sou mana na te aumaia lou agaga
E tumama ina ai le fia vaai i ou mata

My decision is done,?we should start again?
All our love and hopes, we must cherish for years
It’s not easy, it’s hard? but it can be done?
If we both come together in harmony my love???????

I always thought your love was real, inside your heart there’s only me
I will always be, your guarding star????????/
Sosefina it’s ok
You”ll always be in my heart
I’ll guard you with strength, so your beauty remains the same

Solomona the King, it’s hard, it’s love
I drank from this cup, oh it’s hard and it’s so sour
I am going crazy,all over you
I guess all my dreams will be sailing away””””””””””””

I always thought your love ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

TwIsTeD_MeTaL_MaN

This is “my” translation of Fiji’s version would be word-for-word:

1) My decision to restart, (I used “i le toe amataina”–Fiji’s; for Tiama’a’s it would start off as “My decision for commencing”)
our relationship to become more meaningful,
Oh how sweet it would be if it was so easy,
if we were both in harmony in an wholehearted agreement.

Chorus) My suspicion…is your love real?
I will be your shielding shade…
Okay Sosefina…you are my pride and joy,
I shall be your guarding shield so your beauty won’t be taken away.

2) Oh my desires, of wanting to welcome
you Sosefina my love, the single-stone-structure of my life.
If only you had the “Mana”…that could bring me your soul,
to satisfy my hankering to see your eyes.

(Extra verse in Tiama’a’s version)

No wonder Solomon (King); the complexities of love…
It’s my last sip, but impossible because of it’s so bitter,
I’m about to lose myself over you my beloved,
I don’t know your thoughts–I could be drifting away.

I am happy to rectify the fact that Pagamalie Iopu Faivalu is the composer
and the song writer of the Sisefina
Fiji did amazingly with his variations. However the credit needs to be
given to Iopu Faivalu and the Tiamaa from the village of Tuamua

One of my favourite jamz. I’ve only put this on here to try and grasp the deep language used in this song. Apologies if this isn’t accurate I’ve taken a few liberties in this English translation but only so peeps can see the complexity and depth of the lyrics/Samoan language used here.

Furthermore I vaugely remember my parents saying that this song is about a man (could be the writer) who fell in love with the daughter of a chief who may have not have approved their union. So this kinda just chucks all kind of “forbidden love” connotations in there. Hope this helps guys

La’u filifiliga i le toe / mo le amataina My chosen to make a decison
O le ta mafutaga ina ia maua se uiga Our union must have some meaning
E le suamalie pe a faigofie It’s not sweet if you give yourself easily
Pe a tutusa ta’ua i le loto malie Unless we are one in this decision
(OR could also mean – I will not force your
hand)
{ CHORUS }

Nai / Ni ou masalosaloga e moni ea o lou alofa Im saying this because Im about
O le afai a’u ma ou fa’apaologa to be your(s) man/husband/shelter
So I’m thinking – Is your love true?

Sosefina ua lelei Sosefina I give myself to you
Avea ia oe (fai) ma o’u sei whole heartedly. I will accept you
Te ufi malu ia oe ne’i fa’aoa lou lalelei to be my girl/bride/woman/flower,
So that I may forever hold in sacred
union your beauty
lest it be stolen/soiled/defiled

{ REPEAT CHORUS }

(E nai) Ou manaoga ta fia faatalofa These desires that I’m wanting to
ia oe le uo Sosefina o le ma’a tasi o lou ola express
Pe a na iai sou mana na te aumaia lou agaga To you my (love,girl,woman) Sosefina
E tumama ina ai le fia vaai i ou mata the one milestone of my life
If only you had the (power, authority)
to release your (self/soul/being) to me
to relieve this longing to see you

I like your English version of this song.

La’u filifiliga i le toe / mo le amataina…In my conclusion, we must make a new beginning
O le ta mafutaga ina ia maua se uiga….That we be in union till we find the meaning
E le suamalie pe a faigofie…..O how sweet, if it come with ease
Pe a tutusa ta’ua i le loto malie…when our hearts in harmony

{ CHORUS }

Nai / Ni ou masalosaloga…O I’ve had my reservation
e moni ea o lou alofa….of how true was your passion
O le afai a’u ma ou fa’apaologa…Whether I’d be a tower for your protection

Sosefina ua lelei….Sosefina I agree
Avea ia oe (fai) ma o’u sei…..That you will be my glory
Te ufi malu ia oe ne’i fa’aoa lou lalelei…I’ll shielded you lest your beauty be fleeting

(Extra verse in Tiama’a version)

Leitioa Solomona le faigata o le alofa….No wonder Solomon with onerous of love
O sa’u inu toe toe ae le mafai talu le ‘oona….I’ve taken in spite of its bitterness
Ita pei a valea ia oe le manamea…..Woe is me as a fool for you
Ta’ilo i lou mafaufau i te’i ita ua tafea….Wish I know your mind lest I’ll be cast away

{ REPEAT CHORUS }

(E nai) Ou manaoga ta fia faatalofa….Of my desire to greet hand in hand
ia oe le uo Sosefina o le ma’a tasi o lou ola….with you friend Sosefina the lone rock of my life
Pe a na iai sou mana na te aumaia lou agaga…. If I had the mana it could bring over your soul
E tumama ina ai le fia vaai i ou mata….To lessen this yearning of seeing your face

i love how he refers to king solomon from the bible, king solomon worshipped the gods of his concubines and wives and ended up turning from his God. and when fiji says he drank from the cup it means hes feeling the overpowering love that comes with loving women in general which is why he says ” im losing myself loving you ” which is what king solomon did, from the beginning of his reign he had a close relationship with God as king of israel but over time he accumilated wealth fame and power- but also he chose the gods of his wives over his own probably out of love for his wives(this is only speculation of why he chose to worship other gods, much like its speculation that adam ate the apple and sinned with eve), he had a strong relationship with God but over time he accumilated the love over his concubines and worsihped their gods instead

This is one of the classics. It’s hauntingly beautiful…reminds me of a time of innocence and romance in Samoa (when I was a kid). I’ll always treasure Samoa in my heart. Samoa muamua le Atua.

what are the ukulele chords to this song?

My mom was Sosefina’s nanny. Sosefina is a beautiful Samoan British girl. The song was written for her. And the original song birds are Tiama’a. Fiji just banked on it. My mom got pregnant and Sosefina’s family…the Annandales…from Great Britain… made a beautiful wedding for my mom. Sosefina Annandale and her sisters are in my mom’s wedding picture. My mom had a girl…and guess what…my sister’s name is Sosefina. My said said…the boy was in love with Sosefina…and he wrote that song. So, it’s a boy dreaming of someone, he knows…he can never have.
